Am I Eligible?

Basic Requirements

To apply for this scholarship, you must have at least one parent who meets at least one of the following criteria:

  • Active duty, reserve or veteran enlisted U.S. Marine
  • Enlisted Marine killed while serving in the U.S. Marine Corps
  • Active duty, reserve, or veteran U.S. Navy Corpsman who is or was attached to a U.S. Marine Corps unit, or who was killed while serving with a U.S. Marine Corps unit
Note: concerning veterans, this requirement includes only those who have received an honorable discharge. A discharge status of other, general, under honorable conditions, dishonorable, etc. does not meet the eligibility requirement

Additional Eligibility Criteria

  • Cumulative GPA of at least 2.00
  • Family adjusted gross income for the prior tax year that does not exceed $103,000 (non-taxable allowances are not included in the adjusted gross income)
  • Intent to attend a college listed on the National Center for Education Statistic’s College Navigator in the upcoming academic year (applicants and awarded scholars who are attending a Federal Service Academy or a school not listed on College Navigator are not eligible for an award)
  • Honorable character of service, if applicable (if you have served or are serving in the U.S. Military, you are required to provide a Statement of Service or DD214 showing your own honorable character of service; applicants with a discharge status of other, general, under honorable conditions, dishonorable, etc. are not eligible for an award)
  • No prior undergraduate degree (if you have an undergraduate degree or you’re attending graduate school of any kind, you are not eligible)
  • Submission of completed application with all required documents as outlined in the application or as requested by Getlin’s Corner Foundation by the application deadline

Limited Eligibility for Grandchildren

The grandchildren of enlisted Marines who served with India Company, 3rd Battalion, 9th Marines any time between 1 January 1967 through 1 April 1967 are eligible to apply. Grandchildren must be registered with Getlin’s Corner Foundation before an application may be submitted. There are no exceptions.

To register, the following information will be required:

  • Grandfather’s full name
  • Copy of the grandfather’s DD214
  • The name and date of birth of the grandchild applying for a scholarship

Frequently Asked Questions

An award from Getlin’s Corner Foundation cannot be guaranteed.

To be considered for an award, applicants must meet all eligibility requirements and submit a completed application with all required and requested documents by the application deadline. If applicants submit their application with missing or incorrect documents, they will be considered ineligible for the academic year in which they applied. Applicants may reapply in future years.

Getlin’s Corner Foundation scholarships are need-based and applicants whose qualifying income is above the threshold will not be considered for an award.

Yes! Stepchildren may be required to provide additional documentation to show proof of relationship to their qualifying military parent, typically a tax document or a marriage certificate.
Yes! Awards are available for part-time students.

Not at this time.  Our scholarships are to be used for undergraduate degrees from institutions listed at College Navigator.

No, if you’ve already earned an undergraduate degree or completed all of your undergraduate courses, you’re not eligible for a scholarship. 

Yes! Our scholarship can be used in addition to any other benefits you may be receiving.

Absolutely! In fact, we strongly support the great work of the MCSF!  We have intentionally modeled our qualifications and application process after those of the MCSF to make it easy for you to apply for scholarships from both foundations.  Although we cannot guarantee anything, we certainly encourage you to apply for a scholarship from each foundation.
